eBay Nazi ghouls bid for SS 'death's head' hat

eBay has sparked outrage for auctioning a hat made for Hitler's murderous SS. With more than 30 bids in and a day to go, the side cap - featuring the unit's macabre skull and crossbones 'death's head' motif - is predicted to fetch over £200.

The listing shocked the eBay user who stumbled upon the sinister item. He said: 'I often search eBay for war memorabilia but who'd want to buy a hat like this?

'The SS were responsible for some of the most heinous crimes in human history. eBay surely shouldn't be profiting from the sale of stuff connected to unspeakable atrocities.'

The listing's description is deliberately vague, suggesting the seller doesn't want the hat to come to the attention of anyone other that determined buyers scouring the site for such dubious items.

It reads: 'ww2 german cap. Condition is "Used". Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class.'

But the images accompanying the listing show a hat bearing the year stamp '1940' and the branding of 'Robert Lubstein', whose Berlin-based company made headgear for the German military during the Second World War.

eBay has been criticised in the past for similar listings. It  issued an apology back in 2013, after it was revealed that its users were trading Nazi Holocaust memorabilia.

But it seems the past is coming back to haunt the online auction giant, which clearly hasn't yet learned the lessons of history.
